Lambeth council approached the BA graphic design course at Camberwell College of Arts to create innovative responses to the areas of Vauxhall and Oval. These communities have been identified as undergoing significant demographic change and students were asked to communicate the challenges or potential of specific areas. As researchers we became part of the environment in a process of observation, experimentation, analysis, intervention, communication, and play.
Using easels, paper, and pens, we set up drawing workshops in which the public were encouraged to draw their personal depiction of the surrounding environment. The workshop's intention was to encourage the public to freely participate without limitation, to take a minute to slow down and appreciate the nuances of their surroundings through a few minutes of drawing.
